Open Beta Status
The Mortal Shell II Open Beta is a free preview build for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its platform listings remain available as of August 17, 2026. The full Standard Edition launches on August 20, so use the beta to learn the opening route and combat systems rather than to build a permanent inventory.
Treat the beta as a combat rehearsal with two account-level rewards, not as a head start on inventory progression. You keep the Flayed Harbinger cosmetic, and reaching the required point beyond Marrow Keep unlocks an option to skip the Prologue in the full game. Normal character and item progress resets.
How to Download the Open Beta
Search your platform storefront for the separate Mortal Shell II Open Beta listing. Choose the free beta or demo entry, add it to your library, and install that build. Do not confuse it with the paid Standard or Devout Edition listing.
PC players use Steam. Console players use the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S store. The beta is a separate application, so the full release will require its own purchase and installation.
Availability can vary by storefront region. The platform pages do not show one shared closing timestamp, so check the free listing in your own regional store before planning a run.

What the Beta Includes
The playable slice lasts roughly three hours. It starts in the Prologue and continues into the first explorable part of the open world, giving enough space to learn possession, fight in a Shell, and understand the early route structure.
The preview includes beacon cleansing, optional dungeons, hidden mini-bosses, and side challenges. Its main route advances toward Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods. You can also discover and possess Tiel, the Acolyte, one of the full game's eight playable Shells.
This remains an in-development build. Bugs, rough performance, and balance differences can appear, so avoid treating beta timings or values as final-release benchmarks.
What Carries Into the Full Game
The beta grants two lasting unlocks:
- Playing the Open Beta unlocks the Flayed Harbinger cosmetic for the full game.
- Progressing beyond Marrow Keep unlocks an option to skip the Prologue in the full game.
The rest of the save does not transfer in full. Currency, weapons, possessed Shells, collectibles, and other discovered items reset at launch. Routes and combat knowledge remain useful, but collected power does not become a launch-day advantage.
Best Use of Your Beta Time
Learn Hardening timing, test the opening weapon flow, and practice recovering after a failed exchange. Then push beyond Marrow Keep if you want the future Prologue-skip option. Optional dungeons and hidden encounters are useful for practice, though they do not create permanent item progress.
Once those goals are complete, use the remaining time to compare routes and Shell movement. Repeating the opening with clearer priorities is more valuable than farming currency that will reset.
