Mortal Shell II Has 11 Progression Boss Encounters

Mortal Shell II has ten named major bosses after its prologue. Include the Tar Golem encounter and the complete progression route contains 11 boss fights. This count focuses on bosses tied to the opening, Corrupted Gates, the Unfound Path, and the ending. Ordinary enemies and dungeon minibosses sit outside this progression index.

The first major region gives you six Corrupted Gates and no fixed boss order. Each gate victory exposes a beacon with 26 Ova. Five cleared gates provide enough Ova to reach the Unfound Path, though defeating all six is the correct route for every boss trophy and boss-linked reward.

Choose a Safe Boss Order

Use the six gate fights as a build check, then treat the Unfound Path as a four-boss endurance sequence.

  1. Fight the Tar Golem in the prologue. If you want its achievement, reduce it to zero health before the defeat sequence carries the story forward.
  2. Clear the three Fainweald gates: Magdalena, The Lost Child, and The Nameless Captive.
  3. Clear the three Mammon's Furnace gates: Droeg, Hexapod, and Isaac.
  4. Enter the Unfound Path and defeat Orrem, Monolith, and Malborn Offspring.
  5. Collect the Endless Core from the Hidden Nave before committing to the final fight. It removes the Tarforge upgrade limit.
  6. Defeat Zmey the Unbidden, then remain in free-roam for cleanup or choose to send the Ova and begin New Game Plus.

Fainweald before Mammon's Furnace is a clean first-run route because it keeps the northern gate group together. The six gate bosses can still be tackled in any order. If one fight blocks your progress, leave it, strengthen your build elsewhere, and return later.

Five gate victories open the endgame route. The sixth gate boss is temporarily postponable, yet leaving it alive also leaves behind its trophy, weapon material, beacon, and linked route item. Finish all six before sending the Ova if your goal is a complete run.

Prepare Before Every Boss Fight

Mortal Shell II removes the stamina bar, so waiting for stamina regeneration is no longer the central limit. Enemy patterns still punish endless attacking. Build each attempt around posture pressure, critical openings, and a short punish that ends before the next boss string begins.

  • Upgrade one familiar main weapon instead of spreading early materials across the full arsenal.
  • Refill healing and sidearm resources before entering a gate or endgame arena.
  • Save your strongest weapon ability for an exposed head, a long recovery, or a phase transition.
  • Watch red attack warnings closely. Several bosses hide a dangerous follow-up behind movement that looks like a stagger or retreat.
  • Spend one Glimpse on a Shell summon when the arena offers one. Magdalena, Lost Child, Nameless Captive, Droeg, Hexapod, Isaac, Orrem, and Zmey have verified summon options.
  • Change mitigation for the fight in front of you. Galvanic Shard helps against Malborn Offspring's lightning, while Seedbearer's Scripture reduces Zmey's Cosmic Flame pressure.

Corrupted Gate Boss Strategies

Magdalena, Lady of the Woods

Magdalena controls the Glutted Mire arena with Cart Ram, a fire spin, and exploding Tar Babies. Dodge the rush to either side and wait for the spin to finish before committing to a punish. When the adds arrive, keep moving and clear them before their explosions overlap your escape path.

Smert can join for one Glimpse. The summon helps divide attention, though the safest damage still comes from Magdalena's long recovery after a charge or spin. Victory grants Magdalena's Memento, an Axe and Dagger material with a 100 Resolve aerial flurry.

The Lost Child

The Lost Child makes close range dangerous. Belching Breath tracks an area, while Digest & Excrete can end an attempt if the grab catches you directly in front. Circle laterally, move out of the breath zone, and enter for one short punish after the committed animation.

Tiel is the one-Glimpse summon. Lost Clotstone adds a 60 Resolve spinning release to Obsidian Hammer and Veteran's Battle Axe. After taking the Ova, check the innermost chamber for the Blackmarrow Key before leaving Sanguine Caverns.

The Nameless Captive

The Nameless Captive mixes a direct sword stab with delayed, multi-hit head-spin strings. Learn the length of the full sequence before trying to interrupt it. Blocking and measured parries are safer than attacking into a spin that still has several hits left.

Eredrim can be summoned for one Glimpse. The reward is Captive's Scabstone, which gives Great Martyr's Blade a 100 Resolve close-range arc. Completion hunters should also finish the seven-hit Perfect Guard challenge before taking the victory, since that special requirement becomes unavailable until another cycle.

Droeg the Conqueror

Droeg's bone club keeps steady pressure at melee range. The larger trap is Blazing Frostfire, a homing projectile follow-up marked by a red warning. Respect that warning even when Droeg appears staggered, then move away from the projectile line before taking your punish.

Gragu is the one-Glimpse summon. Conqueror's Reward gives Black Needle a 100 Resolve series of piercing thrusts. After claiming the Ova, follow the newly accessible cold corridor to collect Frostshard Stone.

Hexapod

Hexapod's tentacle spread creates the best damage window because it exposes the head. Do not chase blindly when the creature jumps backward. That retreat and its red warning lead into Squid Surge. Evade to the side, let the charge pass, then close the gap during recovery.

Proxima can be summoned for one Glimpse. Hexapod Core gives Axatana a 60 Resolve rapid-strike ability.

Isaac, Scholar Prince

Isaac begins behind a shield and threatens approaches with Leaping Lunge and Pin Cushion. Keep enough room to read the leap, then punish its landing rather than meeting it head-on. At half health the shield falls away and Isaac becomes faster and less predictable, so shorten every punish during the second half.

Lazlo can be summoned for one Glimpse. Scholar's Wormstone powers the Clockwork Scythe with a chainsaw attack that consumes Resolve over time.

Unfound Path Boss Strategies

Orrem, Discarded Golem

Orrem has two distinct phases. The Discarded Golem links Cascading Fire to its regular combo and uses a jumping slam. After returning as the Reclaimed form, it gains speed, tail pressure, and ranged flame. Treat the transformation as a fresh pattern and stop relying on the slower first-phase timing.

Sariel can be summoned for one Glimpse. Orrem's Head is a 5,000-coin trade item.

Monolith

Monolith is a long fight with a large health pool. The opening phase centers on a jumping crush. Below half health, beam attacks enter the pattern and develop into rotating beams. Preserve spacing, pass through one beam lane at a time, and take damage windows only after the rotation clears.

There is no Shell summon in this arena. Monolith Fragment is a 5,000-coin trade item.

Malborn Offspring

Malborn Offspring has two full health bars and delayed strings that can reach five or six hits. Evading the first swing does not finish the sequence. Stay patient until the last delayed hit, then punish the recovery. Attack during the resurrection transition to gain free damage before phase two begins.

The second health bar adds lightning and ranged bolts. Equip Galvanic Shard to reduce that elemental pressure. No Shell summon is available. Offspring Trophy is worth 5,000 coins.

Zmey the Unbidden

Zmey is the final boss. When it jumps away, expect Blade Slam to send flame forward in a straight line. Evade sideways instead of retreating along that line. Cascading Flare forms around your position, so move out of the marked area before returning to attack.

Seedbearer's Scripture helps against Cosmic Flame. Tiel or Sester Genessa can be summoned for one Glimpse. The victory returns control before the final commitment, letting you clean up in free-roam or send the Ova to begin New Game Plus.
